Our Opportunities Fund (formerly Friends of Girlguiding Birmingham) has been set up from grants and legacies to support guiding in Birmingham. All the money in this fund is for our volunteers and girls - to enable everyone to take part in all our activities. Generations of our lovely former members have remembered us in their will, leaving money to help girls have the fantastic guiding experience that they enjoyed themselves.
Does your unit need to replace old equipment and resources? Are you planning a trip and need money towards a coach or minibus? Are you planning a camp or pack holiday and know that you have girls who might not be able to come because of financial reasons? Have you planned an exciting trip and need to fund transport for a leader? The fund is for you - please apply today!
Recent successful applications:
- Abi from the D of E team received funding to enable her to take part in the Level 2 Walking Assessment weekend in the Peak District. This now allows her to supervise/assess both D of E bronze and silver expeditions as well as leading walks on camps and residentials with her guide unit.
- Hall Green Rangers were awarded over £300 - enough for 2 large tents. Their unit has grown from 3 to 14 girls and they all need to be able to plan some camps where they can all sleep under canvas.
- One of our leaders was awarded a grant towards the cost of the Iceland trip in 2025. This will enable her to take part and do her bit in leading the trip.
- £650 was awarded to 172nd Guides and 202nd Guides to help 17 guides and a group of leaders with the costs for the Girlguiding Midlands Capture the Castle Event in Edinburgh, Autumn 2024.
- Weoley Rangers received £450 towards their trip to Edinburgh for the Race to the Castle and Capture the Castle challenges in Autumn 2024.
