We are always keen to recognise the contribution of our many volunteers who give their time so freely. We hold an annual Awards and Recognition event at Trefoil House where Long Service awards are presented along with our other Birmingham county awards. During this event we also recognise national awards that have been presented to our members during the year.
The nomination process for Girlguiding Birmingham awards is very easy. Simply download and fill in the nomination form and email through to our Awards committee awards@girlguidingbirmingham.org.uk

How to nominate somebody for an award
If you'd like to nominate someone for an award, download and complete our nomination form. Email or post to us andour awards committee will decide on the most appropriate award.

Long service awards
Any adult member who volunteers regularly, no matter what their role, gender or age is, can get a long service award. Service is counted from the date someone becomes a member, aged 16 or over, and actively carries out a role for 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 or 60 years. Years of service don't have to be consecutive.
Long Service Awards are presented at our Awards and Recognition events at Trefoil House, our county headquarters.


Hero award
Heroes can be of any age. They can be members or friends of Girlguiding. Hero Awards can by nominated by anyone at any time. Reasons to give the Hero Award could be:
- A special fundraising effort
- Supporting an individual or member of the community
- Supporting local guiding
- Showing fantastic citizenship
- Coping with adversity

County award
This prestigious award is for Girlguiding Birmingham members only. There are three levels and each award consists of a metal pin badge and matching cloth badge:
Level One - light blue
Level Two - green
Level Three - Girlguiding dark blue


Girlguiding good service brooch
This brooch can be given to an adult member of Girlguiding for excellent service to guiding. It can be awarded by the chief guide, for service to Girlguiding, a chief commissioner, for service in a country or region and a county commissioner, for service in the county.


Laurel award
The Laurel award is a national award that celebrates exceptional service and an outstanding contribution to guiding.
This prestigious award can go to:
- Somebody who has held a lots of different roles at different levels.
- Somebody who has made a big contribution to supporting and developing guiding.
- A positive role model who is respected by their peers.


Chief Commissioner's award
Awarded by Girlguiding Midlands, this award recognizes the contribution and dedication given by somebody who is helping to provide quality guiding at a unit level.

County commissioner thanks badge
Awarded as a thankyou by the county commissioner, this badge can go to members or non-member supporters of Girlguiding Birmingham.


Silver fish award
The Silver Fish award recognises exceptional achievements across the breadth of Girlguiding.
This is Girlguiding's highest honour so only a few awards are given each year. More information can be found on the Girlguiding website HERE.


Girlguiding thanks badge
The Girlguiding national thanks badge can be either a brooch, pin or cloth badge. It can be given to members and non-members of Girlguiding as a sign of appreciation for their support.
Any member of Girlguiding may present a thanks badge after a discussion with a leader or commissioner and the badges can be purchased from our shop.
