Going Away With

The Going Away With scheme is open to members who have completed the leadership qualification and currently hold an active role as a leader, commissioner or adviser.  The first four modules equip leaders with the Going Away With licence. This qualifies you to take girls away overnight or for two nights or more if programme, catering and facilities are already provided. Once you have the basic licence, you can pick up additional modules depending on the responsibility you will have during a residential event. You will only ever need these additional modules if you are going away for two nights or more or going abroad. If you’re interested in starting the Going Away With qualification, you can read through the requirements here. If you’re not sure and would like a chat to find out more, please speak to your Commissioner or contact the office.

Queen’s Guide

The Queen’s Guide award is the highest award you can work towards in guiding. It gives you the chance to develop your skills, give back to guiding and support your local community. It’s open to members aged 16 to 30 and must be completed within 3 years from the start date or before your 31st birthday, whichever is sooner. Sarah, our County Queen’s Guide Coordinator can help you get started, advise on finding challenges and activities and help you coordinate your QGA with other activities that you might be taking part in (such as your Gold D of E). If you are a leader and a girl in your unit is interested in starting her QG, please email and we can help.

Training

Our county training team, with help from our region trainers, can provide all your training needs.  Contact us if you need training in your division and we will try to help.  We organise First Response trainings at Trefoil House every 2 months and a variety of other trainings including Unit Accounts trainings and specialist trainings for LDP mentors.  If there is any training you need, do contact us and we will see what we can arrange.

Walking

Emma Cooper is our County Walking Adviser.  She organises our popular social walks several times a year and she is also on hand to guide leaders through their walking qualifications and encourage units of all sections to get their girls walking!

Our Division Commissioners are also part of our county team. As trustees of Girlguiding Birmingham they are involved in decisions for the county and attend county executive meetings. If you are interested in becoming a division commissioner, please contact Janice or Anne. There is training available, as well as support from our commissioner mentor.
