Flyers and bagdes from the event
One weekend at the start of September myself and my friend Jo travelled down to London to attend Girlguiding LaSER’s event ‘Use Your Voice’. The event was part of the Senior Section Spectacular celebrations and was a democracy and campaigning festival designed to inform, equip and inspire members of The Senior Section to speak out about issues that matter to them.
In a talk with former MP Sian James
There were multiple talks, seminars and workshops running at the same time for most of the day on Saturday and Sunday, meaning that we could choose our own timetable and go to sessions that interested us the most. We really enjoyed seeing former MP Sian James speak about her time as a female politician and had a fun and thought-provoking time stitching a portrait of Malala Yousafzai. On the Saturday night we also had an event with talks from Nicola Grinstead, Chair of WAGGGS and poetry from Salina Nwulu, the young poet laureate for London at the incredible City Hall in London with a stunning night time view of the Thames.
The Tower Bridge at night from London City Hall
It was an action-packed weekend and the only downside was that we couldn’t fit everything in! We learnt a lot and will definitely be keeping an eye out for similar events in the future!
