What We Did On Our Holiday – Fliss – Roverway

Workshop participants in action
At the beginning of August, I volunteered to attend Roverway 2016 in France as a facilitator for the Europe Region of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. I applied online for this opportunity and was asked to run a workshop on Free Being Me, a WAGGGS programme about body confidence and self-esteem. Roverway is an event for 16-22 year old Guide and Scout participants from across Europe, supported by an International Service Team of international volunteers aged 22+. It moves around, and this year was hosted by Scoutisme Francais in their training centre near Paris.
Participants enjoying themselves in the workshop
In the first few days, while the participants were out exploring France, I ran workshops to introduce the programme to IST members. All of the participants really enjoyed the sessions and many have taken the resource home to run with their own groups. I also helped set up the WAGGGS/WOSM (World Organisation of Scout Movements) joint tent to help people find out more about what they do. When the participants arrived, I joined my co-facilitator, Patricia from Madagascar, to run 4 Free Being Me sessions on a theme of Be Your Own Superhero. It was great to see the participants getting really involved in the programme and taking part in the Free Being Me Challenge to earn their badges! The WAGGGS team was made up of about 50 volunteers from across Europe, which meant that we had the opportunity to make lots of new friends and share different ways of doing Guiding and Scouting.
