As covid restrictions are gradually lifting it is good to see a start to the return of residential activities which have been greatly missed over the last 2 years. Girlguiding Birmingham are in a position envied by many Counties as we have excellent properties that can offer these residential opportunities right on our own doorsteps. There is obviously a cost involved in keeping these properties in good shape, but this is counter balanced by the ability for all leaders to take advantage of being able to run a residential event close to home. This might be a camp at Goodrest or Trefoil Fields, an indoor event at Trefoil Croft, a sleepover at Trefoil House or when the season opens a trip on Tuptonia. Bookings are gradually coming in for all these events but there is space for plenty more !

There is lots of activity on the building site opposite Trefoil House as the preparatory work for our new ‘home’ is well underway. The work started as planned in early January  –  the handover is scheduled for around Spring 2023 and Winvic, the building contractors have a reputation of never missing a completion date!

There are now monthly meetings scheduled with the developers, the investors plus Girlguiding Birmingham representatives including our professional advisers. Progress will be reported at these meetings and will then be shared with everyone in our newsletters. It is planned that photographs showing progress as well as information will be shared.

It is really exciting to see this project on it’s way as there have been many negotiation meetings over the last 25 years with various developers that have just faded into insignificance but to have an end date in sight and to witness daily work on the site really makes this a reality!

Obviously, a project of this size is not going to happen without some disruption but we are working very closely with the contractors to keep this to a minimum and to inconvenience our members and our users as little as possible. Winvic are very aware of the need for this to happen and are very keen to cooperate with any requests that we have.

As our new building will have a remote entry system, they have installed one for us at Trefoil House so that we can try it out. At the moment, this does not change access to Trefoil House for most people  –  by ringing the doorbell to the right of the front door ( or by arrangement to ring Maureen’s mobile number ). The ONLY people that need to use the remote entry system to the left of the front door are existing key holders as their front door keys now cannot be used.
