At the beginning of August I was on the health and welfare team at Charnwood International Camp in Leicestershire. The medical team provided round the clock first aid and medical care of the 4000 people on site keeping as many people on site as possible.
I did not know anyone when I went but soon made friends and met several people who I have camped with previously. Lex and Max came with me and they had a great time. They went to “kids fun club” a day camp for any children not old enough to be participants and had a fun packed programme.
There were 4 guide and scout sub camps (called 50s,60s,70s and 80s) staff sub camp was 90s and senior section/explorer sub camp was the 00s (very well named). All the sub camps rotated through activites each day including water activities, adventurous activities, and traditional scouting/guiding and circus skills. In the evenings there were discos, live bands and other activities.
It was a fantastic experience and a lovely way to meet friends new and old. I am already looking into Poacher in Derbyshire for next year.
