Girlguiding Birmingham is supporting Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid, helping to bring joy to children who are living in refuges this Christmas. Please bring your donations of selection boxes and sweet tubes to the shop on Thursday 6th December 4pm-7pm or Saturday 8th December at 10am as they are being collected on that day. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far – these are just some of the gifts that have been donated.
On Sunday 2nd December, 5 of our Birmingham leaders were recognised for their services to local Guiding by being nominated by their peers and selected for the Chief Commissioner Awards. Well done to Claire Storrie, Tina Smith, June Poole, Pat Davies and Sally Jones.
The girls got into groups and had a debate, then they wrote their own manifestos. They had their own polling station and had to get their names ticked off, be given a ballot paper, then cast their own votes! They learned all about voting, women getting the vote and they designed their own votes for women posters. They all had a lot of fun and realised how important our parliament is – even for rainbows! After Parliament Week was over they had the loveliest surprise ever: a personal thank you letter to them from Preet Gil Kaur, MP for Edgbaston!
